"TIME": A NEW LOGIC (REVISED) 2 page sides"Now time"(additional details given in postscript #112), the second concept, has not in the past been a part of the "language of physics," but it critically needs to be accepted as important for an amalgamation of biology with physics, for the forthcoming description of time. This point is expanded after the seventh concept. 1) Time is a "counting scalar," not a vector and certainly not an "arrow." A "counting scalar" is a quantity with magnitude only which increases linearly, as does the number of rotations of the Earth about its polar axes. In marked contrast a vector has not only magnitude but also direction. An "arrow of time" is Eddington's misleading metaphor, for time has no direction (no north, no south, no up, no down) and no target could ever be hit by such an "arrow!" 2) All time is "now time." This is one of the most important biophysical and psychophysical concepts, we believe, to all of Nature and especially to our human species. It at first seems to be joining subjective, cerebral time to a traditional past-to-future, objective "arrow," as mentioned above. Thus it may be a difficult concept to understand, for someone trained and specializing in just theoretical physics; but other compatible components of a proposed fuller meaning of time, a meaning hopefully even more accepting to physicists, as well as to other scientists, follows directly (and also see postscript #112). 3) "Past time" involves "timetags" (time labels) which may consist of factual sensory signifiers. "Timetags" are mental, inscribed or machine markers, nothing more. 4) "Future time" involves "timetags" consisting of invented sensory signifiers. "Future time" and "past time" are thus described to be somewhat similar, but, they are bridged by the anomalous "now time," (postscript #112) which may act as a potential "hinge" of symmetry. 5) Conventional, linear time (t) is the result of infinitesimal amounts of "now time," which are "projected," (by human mind, inscription or machine) as "timetags," onto an energy or mass vector and are so attached along the principal axis of said vector, creating past "timetags." Such projections can also create symmetrical, invented, future "timetags." The equations of Special and General Relativity are, to the state of present knowledge, satisfied by the resulting "timetag vectors." A "timetag vector" is an important new concept: "the direct association of mental, inscription or machine markers with any mass or energy," even should such quantities exist with zero relative motion. Recall that if an object in Nature seems apparently motionless relative to the Earth's surface, it still is a mass vector, relative to an external coordinate system, due partially to the daily (diurnal) rotation of the Earth. Living objects continually exhibit many energy and mass vectors, any one of which may carry "timetags," by this mental, inscription or machine process. 6) "Rhythm Based Time" (RBT) is the result of infinitesimal amounts of "now time" which are "projected," as "timetags," onto an energy or mass vector and are so attached only in the "RBT Plane," which is orthogonal (at right angles) to the above mentioned principal axis of the said vector. RBT is defined as "The Perception of Lateness Relative to On Timeness" (please see reference URL's to follow). It is the encoding mechanism of "Rhythm Based Communication," also described in these same references. 7) Conventional, linear time (t) appears to move (or "flow") in the direction of an energy or mass vector and with few exceptions is considered, by convention, to always move towards "the future." Physics has never before been able to answer the question: How fast does "now time" move or how fast does the "RBT Plane" apparently "flow?" If we use the fourth concept as stated above, that "future time" involves extrapolated "timetags," then we all surely agree on a highly probable prediction: that "now time" will move along the principal axis of a mass/energy, physics vector, to the 24th hourly "timetag," in one diurnal rhythmic cycle on the "RBT Plane." In other words, the clock for the "flow" of time in physics, actually exists in the union of a) geophysics b) biophysical "now time," and c) "timetags." 8) RBT is bi-directional (say clockwise or counterclockwise) and may be associated with "vector spin," including rhythms, and especially biological rhythms such as heart motion, breathing and "body language." It can also be associated with geophysical rhythms such as the diurnal (perhaps the most important of all life rhythms), the lunar and the annual. 9) RBT has been found as a communication encoding mechanism for "low stress" animals and as a result it seems an ideal candidate for a more prolific information flow throughout "low stress" Nature. 10) Let us define a new "TIME" by the equation: where t and RBT are "timetag vectors." Because of "TIME" = t + RBT the cyclical nature of RBT, "TIME" will thus also be associated with "vector spin." The above resultant vector sum represents a "helical information package," perhaps leading to new inquiries in the direction of recent discoveries in the fields of molecular biology and biochemistry. Many of these concepts, experimental procedures, and diagrams are available on the internet and the history of early RBT and its applications can be found in the book: "Dancing With Whales." Research addresses are: E-mail: beamish@nf.sympatico.ca , Ceta-Research: Trinity, NF A0C 2S0 Canada, and: URL's: http://www.animalcontact.com/research/ps/ps104.htm & ps105, ps106,ps19, ps112 & ps121. Several of these are changes to human concepts of the logic of time but it appears suggestive to some physicists and biophysicists that they are at least a foundation, part of the picture puzzle; but that there is room for added pieces of the logic in order to, one day, finish a more comprehensive (if not complete) understanding of time. We believe, based on our experiments and procured data, that Nature (as represented in our work with whales and other animals) may be able to demonstrate for us a better logic of a universal time concept. The true logic of time would seem to some, however, to be one of the great mysteries of modern science, and a reason may well be that we need the above mentioned amalgamation of biology with physics. Comments and questions are appreciated.
The "Lanzarote" paper plus over 120 application abstracts are now available
as a book entitled: "A New Logic of Nature." Did anyone enjoy the unique
photograph of two breaching whales called "Synchronization," on the Table
of contents page? We believe that these humpback whales were demonstrating
(as per reference postscript #104 above): a) the
extremely important concept of synchronization (happening at the same "now
time") and, b) an essential foundation of "Rhythm Based Communication"
(RBC) and its encoding mechanism "Rhythm Based Time." (RBT).
