Postscript #129 to the "Lanzarote" paper (03/14/99)
'FAQ' #7 ON "RHYTHM BASED COMMUNICATION"

Is there anything to prevent RBC from becoming misused?

Yes, and the answer is also very powerful, very clear and absolutely essential to the survival of all ecosystems of Earth. Recall that RBC requires and produces low biological stress (postscript #128). Also recall that RBC is a rapid carrier of emotional messages and that organisms can easily and quickly switch from pure RBC to pure "Signal Based Communication" (SBC).
Scenario one. Organism A meets organism B and there is no fear, no externally caused stress by the presence of the other organism or an altered environment, and after 'synchronization' there is a "passkey invitation" by A to communicate with B using "Rhythm Based Communication" (RBC). We believe that each of these two steps: a) synchronization and b) passkey message mimicry can lower the biological stress of both A and B whereby they may remain in RBC where trust grows and altruism is a naturally developed code of ethics. Each organism stands to gain in biological survival potential not only because of the lower stress but also because of an altruistic code which may be intimately connected to a powerful and rapid form of rhythmic communication.
Before we move to scenario two let us give a quotation of Stephen Pinker, one of the most respected world thinkers of natural selection, and the author of "How the Mind Works," a book that: "Marks out the territory on which the coming century's debate about human nature will be held." (Oliver Morton, The New Yorker) The quotation (on page 337 of this exceptional book) is:
"A selfish mutant would quickly outreproduce its altruistic competitors."
Let us start the debate now! This is considered a true statement by the great minds of evolutionary theory, from Darwin to Dawkins, but it is only true for high stress, ‘survival of the fittest,' ‘fight or flight,' situations in Nature which we claim are SBC conditions and may not occupy the entire space- time continuum of the Earth's biosphere. There is a complementary additional component to biological behavior which is illustrated by scenario one, and which cannot exist without the following conjecture.
Scenario two. Organism A meets organism B and there is fear, and externally caused stress by the presence of the other organism or an altered environment. The evolutionary theory of natural selection prevails and communications are entirely encoded in signals (signs and symbols). But - -
Scenario three. Organism A meets organism B and there is no fear, no externally caused stress by the presence of the other organism or an altered environment and after synchronization there is a passkey invitation by A to converse with B using "Rhythm Based Communication" (RBC). So far this is the same as scenario one. Now, organism B changes its altruistic state and generates "destructive" feelings, harmful concepts or a contrary non-rhythmic mental state. This information is transmitted by natural processes (the observation of 'Rhythm Based Time' windows) to organism A which instantly switches back to SBC,'fight or flight,' 'survival of the fittest' and scenario two.
We have seen this happen, mainly for the internal stress of hunger (a category of "destructive" feelings) whereby a whale drops the RBC communication and our computerized traffic light for stress (postscript #1 and the "Lanzarote" paper) switches from green to red before the ensuing feeding commences. It is now possible to measure the difference between the altruistic, RBC state and the 'natural selection,' higher stress state of SBC, by analysis of signal timing. These appear to be two distinctive rooms in the "house of Nature" and organisms move freely between them. Both such compatible, side by side, 'living' rooms support strong, complementary evolutionary selection pressures for survival.
